Every Extension Eczema Extraterrestrial Extreme demo review

I wouldn't normally lower myself to download a game like this, but after seeing how polarized critical opinion has been I decided to find out what all the fuss is (or isn't) about.

E4 initially struck me as quite a unique game, then I noticed that the underlying goal is moving a cursor around the screen to launch a bomb. Your targets are small translucent flower-shaped things that float about in space, and by blowing them up to the tune of pounding techno beats (basically pressing A when a meter reaches full capacity) you trigger a chain reaction and multiply your score into ridiculous 12 digit sums. The sound of the explosions is purposefully snare drum-like and blends in with the background music, giving it a strange interactive quality; you could argue that this is where the game triumphs, but at the end of the day only those who take pleasure in creating techno will appreciate this. So basically this game's target audience is Moby.

The visuals are colourful, euphoric and very simple - multiple explosions lead to screen-filling special effects which get less and less impressive every time you see them. It looks a lot like one of those windows media player visualisations, and you'll probably get more use out of it by dying then letting it display on your TV than you will from playing. So by all means grab the demo and save yourself some money.. the only drawback is that I now have another 200 achievement points that I'll never get added onto my counter of total points available.
