Hands-On: Wii Remote Jackets

Basically giving up and admitting that the Wii remote design is a little flawed, Nintendo have started giving away free Remote Jackets, in the same vein and their redesigned remote straps.

These silicone Wii Remote condoms can be ordered from Nintendo directly through their website. Mine finally arrived yesterday.

First things first, when I opened the package, I laughed at how ridiculous they are. I mean, at first glance, they're hilarious to look at and aren't very appealing.

However, I continued on and slipped my remote into one, a painless process that Nintendo felt the need to provide instructions for.

I've got to say though, they're not bad. I mean, yes, they look horrible, but in terms of comfort and overall feel of the remote, they're worth using.

Nintendo: Holding your hand with new safety features.

When you tilt the remote on its side for use in something like Super Paper Mario, the bubble actually is a nice finger rest for that side.

For gripping the remote for the purposes of tennis, it feels a lot better. The remote feels horrible as it is, but with the grip, it feels better... I can't explain it, but it doesn't feel like you're hold a flimsy piece of plastic anymore.

Overall, as ugly as they are, they're less ugly that the Wii remote on its own and they're actually functional and free.
